Things Only Moms Will Understand

‎ There’s a saying that goes “experience is the best teacher.”

Although this may not always be true, for motherhood, I can say it is to a very large extent.
‎
‎Motherhood is one wild, hilarious ride, and some things? Only another mom will ever truly get.

No explanations needed, just lots of knowing laughs and “yep, same!”

Here are the moments that make us all shake our heads and grin.

‎
‎1. The Mysterious Disappearing Socks and Random Items.

‎One moment, you just erased their notebook; the next moment, you’re looking for the same eraser, with no one leaving the study table.

I learnt pairing of socks immediately after washing and keeping half a pair inside the other before storing, even before I had my kids; if not, I would have also joined the league of moms who always have to search for half a pair of socks every morning.

Finding items like spoons, toys, shoes (the list is endless, actually) in unimaginable places is a mysterious daily treasure hunt only moms understand.

2. The “un poco loco” moments

“What color is the sky?” “Why are you sleeping?” “Momma, What’s in your mouth?” “What are you doing there?” even when they can obviously see.

You answer patiently at first, then later with sarcasm, and you all laugh together. But by the 99th “question,” you’re tempted to scream, but later choose silence.

‎3. The Official “Touched Out” feeling

‎You adore your little ones, but by dinner time, you’re officially done with being climbed on, hugged, and used as a human jungle gym.

When your partner goes in for a cuddle, and you do the dramatic lean-away? Classic mom move.

Only we get how loving someone so much can still leave you desperately craving personal space!

‎4. Carrying the Entire Family’s Brain in Your Head

‎You’re the official keeper of all knowledge: dentist appointments, which shoes are suddenly too tight, which item is worth replacement, and the exact location of the emergency pacifier.

Your mental load is heavier than the diaper bag on a long trip.

Only moms know what it feels like to be the family’s walking Google!

‎5. Guilt That Shows Up for Literally Everything

‎Working? Guilt. Staying home? Guilt. Screen time? Guilt. No screen time? More guilt. Organic snacks or frozen nuggets? Guilty either way!

It’s like guilt has a VIP pass to every decision we make.

Only moms understand this constant background noise of “Am I doing this right?”

‎6. The Midnight Breath Checks

‎Oh this! Only moms can explain why we have to place two fingers close to our baby’s nostrils to check if they are still breathing, and also feel guilty the next moment for ever allowing negative thoughts to slide through our minds😀
‎
‎Even for the older ones, you still find yourself sneaking into their room like a ninja just to check their sleeping position and probably anoint them.

The wave of relief when they’re fine? Pure mom magic only we experience.

‎7. Laughing (or Crying) Through the Absolute Chaos

‎Public tantrums, juice spills right after mopping, “I want to poopoo” when everything and everyone is set to go out – somehow you end up laughing through the mess because crying won’t just make anything better.

Only moms know how tears and giggles often show up at the exact same time.

8. The Little Helpless State of Anger:

Toddlers have one unique agenda: to test your patience!

They will only remember they want to poo once you are set to eat.

That, “mommy, I want to poopoo” when I’m about to eat, always sounds like a war declaration.

It’s frustrating, yet you don’t have a choice but to attend to them. 🤦‍♀️

And by the time you’re done, the smell of their poo has already filled your intestine. You have to wait for some time to get your appetite back.

9. Drawing on every surface except paper

Kids are the most artistic humans I know.

There is no surface too precious for them to decorate. Couch, pets, walls, floor, doors, their body,- everything except coloring books and papers!

They are creative in a way we just don’t understand.

‎

10. Bathroom Privacy Is a Fable:

You used to pee in peace.

Now, the moment you close the bathroom door, a tiny human is trying to force it open, peeping through holes and asking obvious questions, “Momma, are you taking your bath?” “Momma, are you peeing?”

Privacy just keeps fading away by the day!

11. The endless repeats

You find yourself repeating the same instruction, explanation, and illustration a hundred and one times before the day ends.

And when they show you a scene from their favorite cartoon the 20th time, you are also expected to repeat the same surprise face you made the first time they showed you!

In fact, you have memorized the songs to “feel among”. You hum them in your dream!

‎12. Those Secret Heart-Melting Moments

Have you ever gotten a hilarious drawing or painting of you on Mother’s Day that makes you check yourself again in the mirror? 😂

Sometimes they show you kindness and say sweet words to you that melt away whatever chaos or troubles they might have caused so far.

‎The sleepy “I love you” at bedtime, the way they run to you when they’re hurt, or their proud little face when they finally nail something new.

These tiny, ordinary miracles hit you right in the feels and make every crazy day worth it.

One of the moments I won’t forget was when I sneezed at night, and my little son muttered, “Mommy, bless you” from his sleep! I felt seen and loved, and that moment will always mean so much to me!

Only a mom knows how deeply those moments can refill your tank.

‎So the next time you’re having one of “those” days, just remember: you’re not alone.

We’re all laughing, loving fiercely, and figuring it out together—one treasure hunt and heart-melting hug at a time.

‎With big smiles and solidarity from one tired but very amused mom,

‎Victoria
